About natural hormone replacement therapy
Q What are natural hormone replacement therapy products made from?

A Generally between 2-6 weeks. At review, adjustments are made as required.

Symptoms and concerns after starting bio-identical HRT
Q
I am experiencing breakthrough bleeding. Is this normal?
A
Yes. Unless the bleeding is very heavy or frequent continue your troches until your next review. Most bleeding settles within 2-3 months. It is of no cause for concern. If you are bleeding heavily for more than 10 days, please contact the nurse consultant.

Q
My period has stopped altogether. Is this normal?
A
If you are in your reproductive years your periods will probably continue. They may stop. This is not a problem.

Q
I am experiencing crawling skin and/or hot flushes again. Does my treatment need review?
A
Yes. Your treatment will need to be reviewed at regular intervals and the formula of your troches changed accordingly. Ring the clinic to make an appointment.

Q I am starting to feel unwell on treatment. Does it mean it is no longer working?
A This just means your treatment needs to be adjusted or updated. Please contact the nurse consultant for a blood test form and make an appointment for review.

Q
I have put on weight. Is it because of the troches or treatment?
A
No treatment we give you will encourage weight gain. Certain aspects of treatment will assist with weight loss, however diet and exercise remain very important.

A
Yes. It will normally cease 6-8 weeks after starting replacement therapy.

Q My sleeping patterns remain poor. Is there anything I can take?
A Yes. Melatonin. This is a natural sleep hormone. Please contact the clinic to arrange a script.

A This could be related to the androgen in the troche, so your troche formula needs to be altered.
